Jacob C Hammes |
Jacob C Hammes Carved on a CNC router from a 3D model of the stacked doors of a shipping container, this large wall-mounted piece is flocked with polyester fibers, similar in style to the inner lining found commonly in jewelry boxes. Acting as a mausoleum-like emblem of late-stage capitalism, the locked doors indicate the in/out commodity relationship central to global trade. These works ask the viewer to consider the mechanisms that produce an interiority of wealth and access to goods that we experience in the Western world, at the massive expense of health, wealth, and resources in other parts of the world that comes from the transportation of all our “stuff.”
